Amelia Island is the northernmost barrier island on Florida's Atlantic Coast. Vacationers can reach Amelia Island by air via the Jacksonville International Airport, which is 35 minutes by car from the Island. Private, corporate and charter aircraft may use the facilities at the Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport. Rental cars are available at both airports. By automobile, Amelia Island can be reached by using Exit 129, the Fernandina Beach/Callahan exit off of Interstate 95. Follow the signs east to Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island. We're located a scant 15 minutes off I-95 . . . and a million miles from the hustle and bustle you came to Florida to escape. View Map
Still "undiscovered" and uncommercialized, Amelia Island truly has "something for everyone," and many who visit return again and again to recapture their "best vacation ever!"
Birthplace of the modern shrimping industry, Fernandina Beach, located near the north end of the island, hosts its annual "Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival" the first weekend of each May. The event attracts hundreds of artists, artisans, and craftsmen from across the country . . . and more than a 150,000 visitors . . . each year.
Amelia Island is the only territory in American history to serve under eight flags. One visit and you'll know why so many coveted this "crown gem of Florida."
